Beograd. Dorćol. Negde na trideset petom koraku od istočnog ulaza u pijacu Bajloni, sa desne strane ulice, otvorenih vrata, pastelnih boja, privlačnih mirisa koji se šire iz stare peći, čuči, izmedju starih zgrada smeštena, samostalna zanatska pekarska radnja.

Jovan Jovanović, naš prvi junak, je ponosni vlasnik.

Jovan voli: šešire, svoju baštu, miris iz peći, mačke. Takodje voli da viče “arriba” na tečnom Španskom.

Belgrade. Dorćol. Somewhere around 35 footsteps from the east entrance of the Bajloni market, on the right side of the street, with a door wide open, with pastel colors, alluring smells spreading from an old oven, lies a rustic craft bakery shop.

 

Jovan, our first protagonist, is its proud owner.

Jovan likes: hats, his garden, the smell of his oven, cats. He also likes to shout ”arriba” in fluent Spanish.

Njegov prijatelj Vojin Nešković, naš drugi junak, je ponosni pekar i majstor testastih rukotvorina.

Vojin voli: belu boju, pogačice sa salom, ustajanje pre zore, ponedeljke, kafu, Sjenicu i sir. Ne voli Karlsrue.

 

Dvojica naših junaka su postali prijatelji pre tačno 18 godina i 186 dana.

Jovan i Vojin dele: sreću, znanje, radost, poštovanje, tugu, vino, ponedeljke, i jedan automobil.

His friend Vojin Nešković, our second protagonist, is the proud baker and the master of these dough – handcrafts.

Vojin likes: the color white, lard pastry, waking up before sunrise, Mondays, coffee, Sjenica and cheese. He doesn’t like Karlsruhe.

 

Our two heroes have become friends exactly 18 years and 186 days ago.

Jovan and Vojin share:  happiness, knowledge, joy, mutual respect, sadness, wine, Mondays and one car.

Svakog jutra u 6:20 po srednjeevropskom vremenu, pri prvoj sunčevoj svetlosti koja padne na brašnjav sto, leže somuni, koji svojim kvalitetom mogu da izadju na crtu bavarskim kiflama, švedskim veknama sa cimetom, francuskim kroasanima. Njih možete pazariti za 28 dinara.

Every morning, at 6.20 AM Central Eastern Time, at the first sight of the morning Sun, the breads, with quality that can easily be compared with Bavarian pretzels, Swedish cinnamon buns and French croissants, lie on the table. You can buy these for 28 dinars.

Vikendi su posebni dani u njihovoj pekari. Tada pogačice sa salom, gibanice i pite od višanja začinjeni lavandom, čašom jogurta i paradajzom iz njihove bašte, čekaju do 8 časova kako bi posluženi za doručak zadovoljili potrebe i stomake stanovnika ovog dela Beograda. Naravno, svako je dobrodošao, ali bolje bi bilo da porani jer postoji legenda koja kaže: ” Jedanput je jedan čovek izašao ljut i nezadovoljan vičući i mašeći rukama. Naime, sve pogačice sa salom su već bile poslužene”.

Weekends are special days on their bakery. These are the days when the lard pastries, gibanice and cherry pies, seasoned with lavender, yogurt and tomatoes from their own garden, wait until 8 AM to be served for breakfast, satisfying the needs and stomachs of the people from this neighborhood. Everyone is welcome, of course, but you better hurry because there is a legend which says: ”There was once a man who left the bakery furious, shouting at the sky and waving hands. All the pastries were already served”.

Njihova mala pekara je kao muzej. Ne radi ponedeljkom. Ponedeljak je dan kada Jovan i Vojin u kući Moravskog stila nadomak Avale, neguju svoju baštu, zalivaju kruške i lavandu, i uz hranu i piće uživaju u danu koji im se nudi.

Their tiny bakery is like a museum. It’s closed on Mondays. Monday is the day when Jovan and Vojin go to a moravian-style weekend house where they take care of their garden, where they water their lavender and pears and enjoy the day they have been given.
